Introduction

For those unfamiliar with the world of Primatia, it is a little-Traveled but beautiful world accessible by all the major hubs except The Grand Shell Hub as well as by the Brook Hub. The region surrounding the stone portal center is thick jungle. The world has had little in the way of large-scale development, meaning that the natural beauty remains largely untouched. The peoples of Primatia are diverse, made up of numerous species (referred to as tribes) of the primate kind. The tribe closest to the world’s small portal center is the O’ranga tribe.

As is the case in most worlds, conflict between the tribes is sadly common. Usually these conflicts take the form of small-scale skirmishes for territory or resources, but wars larger in scope will occasionally break out, sometimes drawing numerous tribes into the conflict. Such is currently the case, where a war has broken out between several of the tribes living close to the center.

The Conflict

The Spidirmona tribe and their allies the Colobusa tribe began a war against the Houleris tribe over a section of disputed land near the Ranga River (colored red on the map). The Houleris tribe, in turn, called on their allies the Langurin and Rhesasa tribes to help defend their land against the Spidirmona and Colubusa. The conflict soon spread beyond the contested area into the rest of the tribes’ lands and, in several instances, has also spilled over into surrounding regions, though no other tribes have yet joined the war on either side. The portal center, with the help of the O’ranga, has been trying to arrange a summit to negotiate a solution, but the efforts have so far been met with resistance.

The Effects

Both sides of the conflict as well as the surrounding regions have experienced the effects of the war. The death toll from the fighting has been significant, though an official count is not available. Villages on both sides have been ransacked and/or burned, leaving many homeless and destroying many supplies that had been stored. Some of these homeless tribespeople have continued to try and make a living in the remains of their villages or in the surrounding jungle, while others have made their way to other villages as refugees.

Also, many or most of the able-bodied tribespeople have been recruited to fight, leaving much fewer to gather and hunt food. There is not a true famine as of yet; but food shortages are being felt. The village burnings have also damaged or destroyed sections of the surrounding jungle, though the frequent heavy rains in the region have kept the damage more contained than it otherwise might have been.

While neither side has yet targeted Travelers, it is still risky to travel into the area. There is the danger of being caught in the fighting. The food shortages are also a major issue for Travelers as well as for the townspeople. Infrastructure such as roads have also been compromised, with several villagers reporting snares and booby traps placed on the paths crossing the jungles.

Conclusion

While the war is ongoing, it is strongly recommended that Travelers stay out of the area (excluding those who are part of the peacemaking efforts). The portal center and the O’ranga tribe will continue their campaign for a summit and compromise between the warring tribes, but warn that it may take some time. In the meantime, they told our investigators, the rest of Primatia still welcomes Travelers to come and enjoy all it has to offer.
